Vijay Singh is an active performer, composer,
teacher, conductor, and clinician residing in Ellensburg, Washington
where he is Associate Professor of Music at Central Washington
University. A graduate of Willamette University (B. M. Ed/Clarinet &
Voice) and Portland State University (Masters in Choral Conducting/Vocal
Performance), he has been rapidly gaining international attention for
his eclectic musical compositions, performances, workshops, and
conducting appearances. Vijay's teaching experiences have included work
at public secondary schools, community college, and university levels.
He currently teaches voice, choral arranging, jazz pedagogy, directs the
University Chorale, Women's Choir, and award-winning CWU Vocal Jazz 1,
and oversees the vocal jazz program (3 jazz choirs). Vijay's student
ensembles at CWU have been honored as some of the finest in the nation
with invitations to perform at prestigious national IAJE, MENC, and ACDA
conferences. As a composer, Vijay writes for all levels in both the
classical choral and jazz idioms. His compositions (over 170 currently
in print) are widely available from a number of publishers and he often
writes on commission for some of North America's finest ensembles.
An active performer, Vijay has appeared as featured bass-baritone
soloist with such notable groups as Male Ensemble Northwest, Choral
Cross Ties, the Oregon Symphony, the Robert Shaw Chorale, David Byrne
(Talking Heads), Clark Terry, the Disciples of Groove, and as a member
of the award-winning a cappella jazz quartet Just 4 Kicks. He has
appeared in professional opera and musical theatre productions, and
maintains an active career in oratorio, recital, and contemporary music.
Vijay served 4 years as National Repertoire and Standards Chair for Jazz
Choirs in the American Choral Director's Association and is in demand as
a guest conductor of All-State and Honors choirs. He has conducted
All-State choirs in over seventeen states and has the distinction of
conducting both All-State Concert Choirs and Jazz Choirs within the same
year. Vijay has served as adjudicator/jurist at international festivals
in Canada, the Netherlands, Germany, and the United States. The recent
recipient of an eighth ASCAP Composer's Award, Vijay is also a member of
ACDA, MENC, IAJE, ASCAP, and the National Association of Teachers of
Singing.

product of the Berklee College of Music, this pianist, composer, and
teacher has performed in various festivals including the West Oak Lane
Jazz Festival, Clifford Brown Jazz Festival, River Blues Festival, the
New York State Blues Festival, Cape May Jazz and Rehoboth Jazz
Festivals, and the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts.
Jeff's musical proficiency extends to playing the trumpet and organ,
composing and arranging. His most recent recording is with the Cartoon
Christmas Trio. This trio was interviewed on ABC's Don Polec's World,
and was featured on Marty Moss-Coane National Public Radio / WHYY
program Radio Times. He has also performed and recorded with numerous
groups such as the jeffjazz trio, the Renaissance Quintet, Arpeggio Jazz
& Music Ensemble,Lucky Thompson's DNA, Rob Swanson, E. Shawn Qaissaunee,
the Park Central ensemble (featured band for the Philadelphia Phillies
Grand Champion VIP party), and the Tino Gonzales Band, which has opened
for blues legends Buddy Guy, Charlie Musselwhite, and B.B. King.
Micah Jones, Bass
Micah
Jones is the chair of the Bass and Guitar departments at The University
of the Arts as well as coordinator of the University's Pre-College
Summer Jazz Institute. Originally from Harrisburg Pennsylvania, Micah
came to the Philadelphia area to study violin at Temple University. He
decided that jazz is where his heart is, and switched his major to
acoustic bass. Micah received his Bachelor's degree in Jazz performance
in 1997 followed by a Master's degree in Jazz Studies from the
University of the Arts in 1999.
Micah is known for his ability to creatively support the players around
him. "Micah seems constantly aware of the overall group sound as he lays
it down, frees it up, swings, converses and compliments… all with
impeccable taste." says Don Glanden.
He has performed in concert and club settings with Terence Blanchard,
Randy Brecker, Patti LaBelle, and regularly performs with the Don
Glanden Trio. Micah has recorded with Ben Schachter's Trio of Many,
Monkadelphia, and Prism Jazz Trio. Currently, Micah is working on
multiple projects with his own Trio, a new Monkadelphia project, Freedom
Church Philadelphia, and a Bass Duo recording.
Tom Palmer, Drums
Tom
Palmer, head of Jazz Studies and director of Jazz Big Bands at the
University of Delaware, has performed with many jazz artists including
Ernie Watts, Robin Eubanks, Herb Ellis and Donald Byrd. He has appeared
at The Kennedy Center, Philadelphia's Zanzibar Blue and in various jazz
festivals including Wilmington's Jazz in the Village, The Clifford Brown
Jazz Festival and The Rehoboth Jazz Festival. Mr. Palmer has recorded
with Ernie Watts and Don Glanden as well as local artist Shawn
Quaissanee. He recorded on piano and drumset and produced with his wife,
jazz singer, Ellen Lebowitz, the jazz and popular standards albums:
"Invitation To Yesterdays" and "Smokin' Aloud."
